(More customer reviews)My 20 1/2 year old cat began to have the smell of death. It was not pleasant. My husband said her stomach was rotting. Now I understand why some old people smell bad. OxyFresh helped in the last couple of years with her bad breath, but I had no idea it went deeper than that. The bad bacteria had to be counteracted with good bacteria inside her. My husband bought FortiFlora and within a short time, the bad smell was gone and her health improved tremendously. She is back on track, can jump again, and her coat has returned to being shiny and fluffy. Thanks Purina, you saved Tammy's life and my other two cats don't sputter at her anymore. We're buying the canine version for our 11 year old standard poodle. We both believe pro-biotics are a must from time to time and definitely in old age.

(More customer reviews)I searched for a food that wasn't full of preservatives and fillers, and didn't cost $5 a pound. I did alot of research and read alot of labels. I have a Siberian Husky pup, and Canidae has really proven itself to me. As a former conissour of cheap discount store dog foods, I have finally realized the advantages of feeding a natural premium food. My dogs poop doesnt really stink! True! Poop is still poop, but the smell is minimal. I have noticed it also quickly disinigrates into the ground when it rains. With the cheap food, it smelled like rank dog poop! Would make you retch and gag! And there was so much of it! Less poop, firmer stools with barely any odor, less food consumed per day. AND NO BAD BREATH from your dog! A food that swells up when wet is also undesirable. Flint River Ranch brand and Canidae both stay intact, avoiding the bloat factor. I learned, you can learn too! (More customer reviews)I've been using Solid Gold Wolf King for a few years, ever since I researched dog foods on the Internet and found that Wolf King is basically bison and whole ground-up salmon. I'm no expert, but my instincts tell me that this is close to what wild wolves eat, when they can, and all dogs, especially my three Siberian Huskies, are descendants of wolves -- last I heard. When you see "by-products" as a dog food ingredient, consider that it could mean chicken feathers and beaks, and even tumors. A vet told me to supplement most dog foods with real meat because there just isn't enough protein in them. "A dog knows when he's full," she said, "when he's had enough protein."

(More customer reviews)I am trying to get my dogs (all shelter dogs although one is purebred) off low-quality grain-based foods and bought this to add to their high quality lamb and rice kibble, which they eat well. They wouldn't eat it at first, and then only grudgingly. I am going to try again, but I am distressed because I don't like throwing out food. I will try mixing in some cheaper stuff and trying to move toward feeding this. But I am warning anyone who is trying this that it isn't immediately appealing to my five totally different (and hungry) dogs.

We were buying the product through our vet, but the price on Amazon was to good to pass up. We were at first concerned about the expiration date ordering online, but were pleasantly surprised to see that the date was well into next year. Even longer than our vets product.

She told me that because German Shepards have sensitive stomachs and also prone to hip problems is why this product is so beneficial to their dogs. Ever since a puppy my dogs been on Canidae. I have tried others when I couldn't find Canadie, like now and noticed a differance in various ways. I am happy to see I can now buy the product online to get my dog back on tract.

(More customer reviews)I have a Shepherd/Labrador mix who will be 15 years old in May 2009. In his prime, he weighed 72 lbs. At his most recent vet check in October 2008 he had dropped to 51 lbs. He had also picked up three habits he had never displayed in his entire life - begging at the table, rooting through the trash and eating his own feces.
The vet explained that although his senior bloodwork was normal, his body was not processing the nutrients in his food so he was looking for sustenance. To put it bluntly - he was starving himself to death. My vet recommended Prozyme.
After almost two months on Prozyme, Galahad has gained three pounds. He doesn't hover at the table or nose through the trash and he doesn't scour the yard for his own droppings. His appetite for regular food has even improved.
I would definitely recommend Prozyme.

(More customer reviews)We have a 2 year old King Cavalier. He has had digestive issues since being puppy. We've tried everything...5 different foods, both wet and dry...even was on Prescription ID for a period of time at the Vet's recommendation. Nothing seemed to work.
Someone suggested Taste of the Wild Salmon. WOW!!! Not only is my dog eating, but his stools are perfect in color and consistency. We were on Buffalo Blue, but that seemed to be hit or miss as well...causing many days of vomit and diarrhea. Again, when we changed to Taste of the Wild- everything disappeared...not more vomit, not more diarrhea.
Granted, it's like wine, some will like it, some will not. No need for negative reviews, but keep in mind, if nothing else works for your dog's digestive system, why not try it. We did...and we are hooked now...so is Bodie :-)

(More customer reviews)The only anti-diarrhea meds that my vet considers safe for pets are the ones with kaolin and pectin as the active ingredients. These used to be standard in over-the-counter products, but all seem to have changed their formulas to other things, some of which are potentially very harmful for animals.
My vet began stocking Pro-Pectalin when pet owners like me said that we were having trouble finding safe stuff at the drugstore. I've used it on 2 dogs and 2 cats - all happily ate the flavored chewable tablets (crumbled for the cats) without any need to disguise them in other foods. It works fairly quickly too.If you have multiple pets and/or pets with sensitive digestive systems, it's worth buying these in bulk for your own household. Be safe and smart about it: your vet should be consulted to rule out anything serious, since you don't want to be masking symptoms of any major illness or injury.

Solid Gold Barking at the Moon Dry Dog Food Review

(More customer reviews)I have fed this food to several of my dogs for years now with no problems. About a month ago, all the dogs on this food developed chronic smelly diarrhea. I couldn't believe it was the food since I'd fed it for years. After $500 in vet fees I pulled the food as a last resort. Sure enough, all dogs recovered in two days (after two weeks of problems). I tried feeding it again to my "Mr RockGut" dog (the one who can eat anything). The next morning he was back to runny stinky stools.
I went to Solid Gold's website to check for any recalls and found that as of January 2010, all dry food production for the western states had been moved from their CA plant to their MO plant. This was our first bag of food from the MO plant. You can verify that by visiting Solid Gold's website and clicking the "News" link at the bottom of the page.
If your pup is on this (or any other Solid Gold dry dog food) and suddenly develops stinky smelly feces, SUSPECT THE FOOD FIRST!!! Don't waste $500 in vet fees like I did.
Oh... by the way... an email requesting more information on our particular bag of Barking at the Moon went unanswered from Solid Gold.
If they had warned us in advance of the changes, it would have saved us a bunch of money.
We're off ALL Solid Gold products.

(More customer reviews)Probios dog treats are dry "probiotic," lactose-free dog biscuits that are supposed to "promote healthy digestion and total body health." These biscuits are formulated to help dogs with digestive upset or diarrhea, and are labeled for use for intermittent or supplemental feeding only. The active ingredients (listed in order) include: barley flour, rice flour, potato flakes, peanut flour, soy oil, dried Bacillus subtilis fermentation product, dried Bacillus lichenformis fermentation product, and sodium alumnio silicate.
The problem with some probiotics, however, is that sometimes the good bacteria (or Bacillus) may be killed off in the stomach, before it has a chance to work in the small intestines. The second issue that I noticed is that none of the ingredients contain high-fiber ingredients, which may be beneficial for diarrhea. That said, most of the ingredients are bland, which is helpful when a dog has gastrointestinal upset. As for palatability: I tried these on my own dog, JP, who didn't have any diarrhea of GI upset. Unfortunately, he didn't love these, and only ate them with urging. One paw down for palatability.

It's not quite odorless, there's still a slight smell, but not nearly as strong as other liquid fish oils I've tried. Very high quality oil, pressed at low temperatures and from wild caught fish, and heavy metal toxins are removed. I alternate between the Iceland Pure Sardine/Anchovy Oil and Iceland Pure Salmon Oil.
