There is a venison food from another company that doesn't contain potatoes, but at over $100 for 30lbs, feeding a 65lb dog would cost a fortune! Nutrisca has good ingredients, no grains, and is reasonably priced. Also, my dog loves it, but he's a golden and would eat anything!

(More customer reviews)After careful research on the best dry food for my dog's diet, I chose Wellness Core Reduced Fat. My mixed breed dog is low energy and has a tendency to put weight on easily. It was very difficult to find a dog food that does not compromise quality ingredients to make a food low fat. Since my dog is low energy (by no means a sled dog), her diet does not require her to have extreme protein intake. This food is the prefect balance of protein, quality meat sources, fat content, as well as important sources of fruits and vegetables and fish oils. Her eyes are bright and coat is shiny. While she hasn't lost any weight, she hasn't gained any either, which is a good thing!
You get what you pay for when it comes to dog food. When purchasing this brand, one is paying for high quality food (meat content, veggies, fruits) without fillers or extreme levels of protein.

Orijen Adult Formula Dry Dog Food Review

(More customer reviews)I have a 8.5 month old Aussie mix. She's about 42 lbs now. This food is magic!! I love it! She's never been "food motivated" and so she's always been a little reluctant to eat her kibble, but she honestly LIKES this stuff. She'll do tricks for it like it is a treat. More importantly, her poop is GREAT on this kibble. Finally, it's easy to pick up! This food is a godsend.
We've previously tried Innova EVO, California Natural Lamb and Rice Puppy and Adult, and Canidae All Life Stages. Innova EVO gave her the runs, but she was a new puppy. (The pet food store said EVO was rich enough for puppies. My vet disagreed.) California Natural seemed better, but her poop was always so soft that it was messy to pick up, and she never really liked it. She liked the taste of Canidae better - so much so that she would pick it out when I mixed it with the Lamb and Rice. However, her poop didn't really improve until we shifted to Orijen.
Magic. This stuff is magic, I say. Besides being the magic food for my dog, it's also made in Canada with almost all Canadian ingredients. From what I've read, they get rice from California and Lamb from New Zealand, but otherwise -- everything comes from farms in and around Alberta. No food recalls on this brand!
One word of advice: like with all good dog foods, it's best to keep the bag tightly closed. It goes stale.

I came upon this product: WELLNESS CORE OCEANFISH & it was the absolute best food they ever had. I am 100% pleased with this product & their health, as a result. My bulldogs are fed this product 2x per day; I mix a little dry with the WELLNESS Oceanfish wet + a little water. Their allergies have improved & they haven't been bored eating this everyday... They have now been on this food for over 1 year & I highly recommend it! Great for bulldogs in particular!

Dogswell Nutrisca Chicken and Chickpea Recipe Dry Dog Food Review

(More customer reviews)We have 2 dogs.One is a 6 year old (possible) Border Collie Mix, and the other is a newly adopted, 9 month old American Pit Bull Terrier mix. When we adopted the APBT we were informed that they are often allergic to grains and to try and find a grain free food. This was the first brand we found and thankfully it was a hit....not only does our new puppy love it, but our older dog loves it as well. Also a wonderful benefit is ,our older dog had been chewing and scratching at himself, and his fur was becoming discolored in those spots. We had taken him to the vet for this and we all assumed it was an allergy to fleas. We have him on flea meds but still were experiencing the same issues with him. Now, after being on this food for a month and a half he is no longer chewing himself and the red color is dissipating!!
I recommend this food highly.

Wellness Core has a great ocean recipe that I would highly recommend if you have a terrier because they do better on ocean based diets. I have a yorkshire terrier and she loves this food. Her coat and digestion have improved dramatically. Something else to note is the quality of the ingredients. Overall great food!

In May we adopted a rescued thin, sickly 2-1/2 year-old male GSD, AKC registered. We've been without a dog for years, and I wasn't sure what kibble to feed a younger dog. The pet store had Eukanuba and, out of the corner of my eye, I saw "for German Shepherds" and decided to try it even if it is a bit expensive.
It was the best pet food decision I've ever made.
He's bulked out now to a normal weight, has a coat that's incredible, and his breath is clean and sweet. It's great on his digestion--he doesn't eat grass anymore and has healthy poops everyday. Sure it might be pricey, but isn't your loyal companion and protector worth it?

(More customer reviews)I have a 6 year old chocolate labrador retriever. Chip has been plagued with a dry itchy coat and profuse shedding for the past 5 yrs. My vet thought that he was allergic to grains and suggested I try the Nature's Variety GRAIN FREE dog food. After two months, chip's skin stopped flaking, his shedding reduced exponentailly and his coat was as shiny as when he was a pup. I was a skeptic in the beginning thinking that chip was on the pro plan diet and that was good, right? WRONG! I highly recommend this food. Do the research and find what low grade ingredients are in name brand pet foods on the market today. When all of the dog food poisionings and recalls happened you never seen this brand on the list. I truly am a believer in this product.

I read a lot about this brand of food and it gave it a try. They love it. The only negative is that it is expensive, but my dogs are small and so the price wasn't a real issue. They have other dog foods which are cheaper, but still of high quality. I think it is the price of the protein used which affects cost the most.

After testing hundreds of pet foods in a non-bias way, Orijen is considered to be the healthiest overall and most biological appropriate petfood in the entire world. My dog loves the taste. It is grain free and free of all artifical preservatives such as ethoxyquin, BHT, BHA etc. It is very high in protein and many other nutrients, which is great for all breeds of dogs. What I especially like about the Six Fresh Fish with Sea Vegetables flavor is that it uses fish oil instead of chicken fat, which is almost impossible to find. This food is also hypoalergenic, so if your dog has food allergies, especially to chicken or grains, this is the food to get. This food is great for dogs whether or not they have food allergies. I have two different flavors of the Orijen dog food and give my dog both flavors each day so he has some variety in his diet. I highly recommend this food. Well worth the little bit of extra price.

She was on Wellness Simple Solutions Rice and Duck dry and canned food for about 6 weeks, and her ears cleared up without continuos medication. (More customer reviews)I first purchased this food at the Pomona Pet Expo this year and as I do all my cooking for my animals I was looking for a natural grain free dry to add to their wet. I learned that feeding your dogs the right food from an early age is key to keeping them healthy and with you for as long as possible.
This by far is one of the best Natural foods I have purchased and my dogs just (Love) it.. The Holistic Primitive is high in Protein and very well tolerated by sensitive stomachs. This food has never been recalled and is made in it's own plant, unlike most major brands out there that are manufactured at the same plant and only under different names. The price I find to be fare, as I have paid much higher for other Holistic food which was not received well by my dogs.
I highly recommend Earthborn Natural food for anyone who really knows the importance of feeding your "companions" healthy food and for those who really Love their Pet's..
