We bought dog treats directly from Smokehouse in the past and I recalled they made a point that their products are made in USA. So I was rather disappointed to read on the label these are a product of China.
Our dog likes them but with all the news about melamine in animal food in China, I will not buy these again.

Acana Wild Prairie Dog Food - Trial Size Review

Acana Wild Prairie Dog Food - Trial Size
Average Reviews:

Acana is manufactured by a canadian company that is also a maker or orijen, but its designated for dogs who dont do well on high protein, which was a case with my dog, hes moderately active 3 year old weim, but was putting on weight on orijen, so this was a great addition to his diet. He loves the taste just the same and I've had no issues with it, glossy coat, lots of energy, no ear or eye infections. Plus I like that fact thats they use free range chickens which appeals to my ethical side, since I only buy organic and free range myself.

Blue Buffalo Chicken & Brown Rice (6 lb) Review

Blue Buffalo Chicken and Brown Rice (6 lb)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My two goldens approve of this product. Blue Buffalo uses top of the line ingredients, human food grade-- there's a chicken version and a fish version. No yucky meat "by-products", meat and meat meals are the top ingredients, no indigestible corn or wheat, a wide variety of wholesome and varied vegetable ingredients and several probiotics to promote healthy digestion and absorption of nutrients. On top of that, this is a very palatable food.
Blue Buffalo also uses a unique process to manufacture "lifebits" which are added to the basic "kibble" food. These smaller, darker pieces are cold formed in order to better maintain nutrients. I don't believe any other company incorporates this kind of element into dog food.
I respect what they are doing, and I've changed to Blue Buffalo food for my cat, too.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here's the nutritional information:
-One cup contains 462.8 calories
-NO animal by-products
-NO artificial preservatives, colors, or flavors
-NO corn, wheat, or soy AND gluten-free (great to know after last years' pet food scandals and deaths with other brands, in which added glutens were contaminated with melamine)
-Crude protein 25% minimum
-Crude fat 14% minimum
-Omega 3 fatty acids 0.25% min
-Omega 6 fatty acides 3.5% min
-Glucosamine 400 mg/kg max
-Major ngredients, in order:
Deboned chicken, chicken meal, whole ground brown rice (very digestible grain source vs. the usual corn), whole ground barley, oatmeal, rye, whole potatoes, tomato pomace (natural source of lycopene), chicken fat (preserved wtih natural mixed tocopherols), natural chicken flavor, whole carrots, whole sweet potatoes, blueberries, cranberries, flaxseed, barley grass, dried parsley, alfalfa meal, kelp meal, taurine, l-carnitine, l-lysine, glucosamine hydrochloride, yucca schidigera extract, green tea extract, turmeric, garllic, sunflower oil (natural source of Omega 6 fatty acids), oil of rosemary, the whole bunch of expected vitamins and minerals, and several probiotics (lactobacillus acidolphilus, bacillus subtilis, bifidobacgterium longum, enterococcus faecium).
I hope this helps you evaluate whether or not this food would be a good match for your best pal.
George Foreman Champ Grill with Bun Warmer Review
George Foreman Champ Grill with Bun Warmer
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)
I bought mine recently and LOVE it! I'm a single person who normally eats out of the microwave and get impatient when it takes more than 5 minutes for some dishes. But I do love to cook but ran out of time with my job nowadays and this does the perfect job of allowing me to cook quickly and clean up just as quickly. I'm very happy with mine! Of note, some people are bothered by the small size. It's just me so it's perfect and possibly perfect for 2 people. Get a bigger size if you cook for a lot of people.
Click Here to see more reviews about: George Foreman Champ Grill with Bun Warmer
By cooking foods from the top as well as from the bottom simultaneously, maximum moisture and flavor is retained. The one thing that is not retained is the fat, which runs out along channels in the slightly slanted grill to a dishwasher safe drip-tray out front. The grill marks provide caramelized flavor and an appealing apperance for steaks, chicken breasts, seafood, veggies and more. While your food is cooking you can also warm up buns, tortillas, rolls and other bread items on top. After the party's over simply scrape with the plastic spatula and wipe clean with a paper towel or sponge. This model is an ideal size for cooking food for one or two people.
Even though this is 95% chicken, it looks like cat food (ground up texture) and smells like stinky canned chicken. It's a very strong smell! My dogs go NUTS for this, though (1 Labrador and 2 Boston Terriers). I just add a couple spoonfuls as a topper to their dry food, so one can lasts awhile. I probably will try something less smelly next time but I like the quality of the ingredients and like the Wellness brand.
Nature's Variety Canned Cat Food, Homestyle from Prairie, Beef and Liver Stew has chunks of meat, also some vegetables, with a lot of gravy. I like this food for my cats because the chunks of meat seem to keep them regular and also provides liquid in the form of gravy which is good for their urinary tract. In addition I put about a tablespoon or more water into my cats' cat food to make sure they get enough water, in case they don't drink from their water bowls. And my cats love the food.
Taste of the Wild Dry Dog Food, Hi Prairie Canine Formula with Roasted Bison & Venison, 15-Pound Bag Review
Taste of the Wild Dry Dog Food, Hi Prairie Canine Formula with Roasted Bison and Venison, 15-Pound Bag
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)
First of all I would like to say that my puppy LOVES this food! I have a 4 month old Lhasa Apso and he licks his bowl well after he has finished eating. When I first got him the breeder had him on Purina Puppy Chow. The first thing I wanted to do was to switch him to a high quality, no grain diet and after alot of research and reviews,Taste of The Wild always came on top(dollar wise). After the switch I immediately noticed a difference in my puppy.His coat is starting to shine and is sooooo soft to the touch. He has so much energy now and he has less eye discharge and less ear odor(due to being allergic to the Puppychow). My only problem I have with this product is when I went to my local pet store to buy him a 15lb bag. I immediately saw on the bag "Now made with Purified Water and More Bison" and I thought to myself; "wow they made it better", but after reading the ingredients boy was I wrong. They might have added more bison but they totally eliminated venison from the list. Venison was the second ingredient but now its lamb meal. What once this dog food had four meat products as its main ingredients(Bison, venison, lamb meal, chicken meal) now has three(Bison, lamb meal, chicken meal). More bison or not the exclusion of venison takes away some of the "wildness" of the formula in my opinion. Sure it still has roasted venison down the list but it just that, DOWN the list. In my opinion they've downgraded the formula but are still charging the same price and I am a little concerned by that. I emailed the company for more info on the "New Formula" before I buy the bag and will post an update soon.
UPDATE!
Just received an email regrading the formula change by the company;
Dear Eric,
"Thank you for your inquiry. I'm glad that your puppy has been doing so well on the Taste of the Wild High Prairie. The formula had to be changed because an adequate supply of quality venison was not available. The change is relatively minor with the venison being replaced with bison, already a part of the recipe. I would not expect you to notice a difference with your puppy. However, if you still have some of the food in the previous bag, I would mix the food from both bags for a few days to avoid any potential issues. If you do not have any food from the previous bag, you could add some plain nonfat yogurt to your puppy's diet for a few days to help prevent any issues. I usually recommend 1 tablespoon per 25 pounds body weight".
Sincerely,
--
Melissa Brookshire, DVM
Just to let you guys know that the formula change might cause some minor stomach issues so adjust accordantly.
My sixteen year old border collie loves this food. She's was used to dry dog food so I started out mixing this with the dry which she eats heartily, but she really woofs it up when I give it to her plain. Usually I give it to her mixed with the dry food. It is definitely doggie friendly as well as nutritionally excelent.
Smokehouse 100% Natural Duck & Sweet Potato Dog Treats, 16 Ounce Reseal Bag Review
Smokehouse 100% Natural Duck and Sweet Potato Dog Treats, 16 Ounce Reseal Bag
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)
I have made every effort to NOT buy/feed anything made in China to my pet. I researched these duck/sweet potato treats before finally deciding to buy them. Nowhere on the amazon product page does it tell you where these treats are made, so I searched for the Smokehouse website which claimed that ONLY some of their CHICKEN treats contained chicken from China, but all other products are made in the USA. So, I felt safe in purchasing these duck/sweet potato treats. After opening a bag, and giving them to my dog did I glance at the product origin. Needless to say my dog likes them very much, but I was NOT happy to find PRODUCT OF CHINA on the bag.
Boo hiss to amazon for not putting the product origin on the product page, and to Smokehouse for misleading consumers on their product information website. Why do they do this, because there are customers just like me that care where the product originates. Many of you may not be concerned about this, but I am, and I think it's very misleading not to provide accurate, and complete information about the product when purchasing from an internet store. At least the product doesn't smell like plastic like the Dingo products.
I won't be purchasing these again. My dog seemed to like them, but she won't be getting anymore of them. I took a star off due to the lack of complete information from amazon, and misleading information from Smokehouse.
UPDATE: Big thumbs up to amazon for great customer service. When I called to return this item they were very helpful in processing a refund, and because it is considered a grocery item I didn't even have to return the items. I had also purchased the Smokehouse duck chips, but they too are made in China. I suggested the addition of the country of origin to both product pages. Just another reason why I don't hesitate to purchase from amazon. They truly have great customer service....rare these days.
K&H 96-Ounce Thermal-Bowl Outdoor Pet Feeder, Blue Review
KandH 96-Ounce Thermal-Bowl Outdoor Pet Feeder, Blue
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)
I purchased this bowl for a feral cat colony (housed in a garage transformed into a strawbale "barn" for the kitties) and needed something that was sturdy enough to not be tipped over by a few of the cats who like to drink with their paws on the sides of the water bowl.
Living in Minnesota, a water bowl that would keep water from freezing is essential. In these parts the season known as "Fall" lasts approximately 12 hrs. The timeframe it goes from 78 to a daytime high of 38 the next day, with overnight lows in the 20's and 30's.
We've already had overnight lows (with windchill) in the low 20's and teens so I've had a chance to see how well the bowl would handle a dozen kitties as well as the cold temps.
Works like a charm. One day the water was frozen, I plugged in the bowl and no more frozen water the next day, and the weeks following.
If you have outdoor pets and cold overnight lows, this water bowl is what you need. Didn't seem to up my electric bill either which is nice.
Yes, I would recommend this item. Also, it took 1 week from time of ordering to arrive. I think they shipped the day after the order was processed, the only reason it took that long to arrive, was due to a weekend that fell a few days after I ordered.
Just Fyi, the title says Turkey but the photo of the can says chicken. I thought I was ordering Turkey (my amazon receipt said Turkey) but I rec'd chicken. I have an early-CRF kitty and was specifically looking for the Turkey for the lower Sodium level. I Just want to make other CRF cat owners aware :-) NOTE: The chicken IS lower in Phos, so that's good. At least it will get used as part of kitty's meal rotation.
