PetSafe Electronic Pet Feeder Review

PetSafe Electronic Pet Feeder
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This feeder is exactly what I expected. High quality, easy to use, and reliable. I previously purchased the two - sided feeder by Petsafe and was very happy. It still works great, but I needed to go away for 4 days and it just didn't have enough slots. It took my cat about a week to get used to the whirring noise that the feeder makes when it rotates the dish; He wouldn't go near it if I didn't stand next to him while he ate. I made it a positive experience for him by putting a small meal in each of the slots (even just a few kibbles) and for a week he got a food reward everytime the machine made the whirring noise. Now he runs to the food dish everytime it whirrs because he knows it means food. I definitely would recommend this product to a client (I am a veterinarian). My only advice is to make sure that you give a few weeks for your pet to adapt to the whirring noise before you leave them alone with the food dish. This also allows you to make sure that you learned to program the dish correctly. As for batteries it takes four. I bought this product in August and it's now November. I have not needed to replace the batteries yet. Some purchasers complained that their pets were able to manipulate the machine to get to food ahead of time, but I have not had this problem. This product would be great for anyone working long hours and needing to feed their pet multiple meals per day, which is recommended for pets needing to lose weight and diabetics.

With the PetSafe 5-meal electronic pet feeder you never have to worry about your dog or cat running out of food or overeating. It automatically feeds your pets up to 5 times a day. The electronic timer lets you set the times each new meal is presented in one-hour increments. Five 1-cup-capacity chambers hold either wet or dry pet food. Made of sanitary, rugged, polypropylene, a secure latching lid keeps foods fresh and at the ready and prevents pets from digging in too soon. With a digital timer for changing feedings quickly, the unit is great for kennels and vets who see lots of different pets. The feeder's dishwasher-safe food tray means easy cleaning and healthier meals. I received my dog feeder within a week. After receiving it, I was pleased with the ant proof ability, BUT I wish it had been larger for my BIG dog, who is a mix of chow and pit bull. It serves the purpose of not having ants invited, which is why I ordered it in the first place. But it was designed for a smaller dog/cat.

Lentek 6-Day Automatic Pet Dish Review

Lentek 6-Day Automatic Pet Dish
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had this automatic feeder for 2 years. It works great and has eliminated the screaming my cat used to do before meals. Now she just sits in front of the feeder and waits for it to go off. It holds 6 meals (but one is exposed so it really only has 5 meals). The cover rotates to expose a new meal every 6, 12, or 24 hours. My cat has been very abusive to the machine (because she can smell the food in it) however she has not been able to break the cover or get to any of the other food compartments. If you do force the machine to go backwards the motor will kick on and rotate the cover back to the correct position. My only real problem with the feeder is that the motor is quite loud and drains the battery very quickly. Also as a note, there is no way to set the hour on the feeder, it just goes off 6,12, or 24 hours after you turned it on. So if you want it to always go off at 7am you would need to turn the power on at 7am/pm the first time.

Already have one and getting this second unit for dispensing Cheerios, pets love the treat.
The wider bottom design of this unit results in a more balance unit and translates to less tipping when compared to other top heavy units sold.
Easy to set up and comes with clear instructions so the programming takes just a couple of minutes.

This product is well made and has really helped with our problem. Our chickens love to come along and eat our (outside) cats' food, but of course we don't want them to. So in the mornings before the chickens are let out, we just close the bowl..at night when they're back in the coop, we open it for the cats. I do wish it were a little bigger, so we didn't have to refill it as quickly, but overall, I am very happy with this product!

Ergo Auto Pet Feeder, Small Review

Ergo Auto Pet Feeder, Small
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My girlfriend is a vet and says that cats should be feed twice a day the recommended amount on the food can. Open feeding leads to over weight, knee problems and diabetic cats. This feeder works decent. Positives include easy to program, different or same feed times everyday, ability to adjust amount of food easily, chew proof cord and it is quiet. Negatives include auger is easily reached by cat allowing about 10 extra kibbles to fall out if the cat plays with it enough. It only took my cat about a week to figure this out. I have not had any problems since its purchase and my cats no longer wake me for food at 3 am. I built a divider so the food goes into two bowls, one for each cat, and it works good.
This unit is pricey but works well. The quality of the product seems cheap for the price, but nothing has malfunctioned. Definitely recommend to anyone who is annoyed in the middle of the night for food or needs to leave the cat alone for a weekend.

Petmate Le Bistro Feeder with Microban Review

Petmate Le Bistro Feeder with Microban

I bought this for my persian cat when her old Le Bistro feeder just got too grungy to use any more (after nine years). I must have been asleep at the wheel when I ordered it (hey it looked just like the old one in the picture) just four times as big. These feeders work great for almost any shape dry pet food. This size holds about half a 17.5 pound bag of Science Diet adult cat food. Now Murphy has enought chow at any given time to weather the odd catagory five hurricane, or a nuclear attack.

Qpets Petself Electronic Feeder (up to 45 Cups) with LCD display Review

Qpets Petself Electronic Feeder (up to 45 Cups) with LCD display
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've owned this feeder for almost a month and so far I like it a good deal. It is solidly made, and the lid locks which is a useful feature (keeps both my pet and my 3-year old from getting at the excess food!). It is a little tricky to program, which is why I gave it 4 rather than 5 stars. But if you read the instructions closely, and remember that it will always show you the time of the NEXT scheduled feeding (rather than the current time) you should be OK. Also the first time you program it check how much food it is actually dispensing. I set it for 1/4 cup but it actually serves 1/2 cup (probably due to the size of the cat food I'm using), so I had to adjust the number of meals accordingly. It does make a sort of strange whirring sound when delivering the food and it takes about a full minute to slowly put out the food, but it's quiet enough and seems to be dependable. I'd recommend it over the Petmate model, which I used before and which was cheaply made and kept breaking on me.

AUTOMATIC CAT FEEDER COMBO/CSF-3XL 1.8 GAL./ with NEW Bowl, Dual Outlet Digital 7-day Timer and Stand Review

AUTOMATIC CAT FEEDER COMBO/CSF-3XL 1.8 GAL./ with NEW Bowl, Dual Outlet Digital 7-day Timer and Stand
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We purchased this feeder about two months ago so that we could leave our cats for a few days while traveling, and so that we could do a better job enforcing the diet we have them on. We kept an eye on it for a couple weeks before leaving the cats alone over Thanksgiving. By the time Thanksgiving rolled around, we didn't have the faintest doubt that the feeder could be trusted to do its thing reliably and without breaking (despite the cats' best attempts to destroy it). This feeder is industrial grade, plain and simple. Everything about it is heavy duty. If you want a feeder you can really trust, this is the one to get. I wouldn't totally trust any others on the market.
The more mischievous of our two cats figured out how to stick her paw in the machine and get a few more kernals out. Purchasing the accessory hood solved that problem, though. If you have a clever cat, you should just get the hood to begin with. I think it will come pre-installed that way, too, which is nice because you have to disassemble the machine to install it.
The feeder itself is simple and foolproof. The most complicated part of setting it up is programming the timer. You can choose whatever timer you want, though, so it is as simple or difficult as you make it.
I contacted the seller a couple times when I first placed the order, and when ordering the accessory hood later. The company is amazingly responsive -- like others have said, I even got a reply to an email on a weekend within an hour!
If you need a cat feeder, this is the one to get. It is more than worth the extra cost over other feeders.

CSF-3 Cat Super Feeder, Stand, New Bowl and Timer Review

CSF-3 Cat Super Feeder, Stand, New Bowl and Timer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This feeder is worth every penny. I own two evil-genius cats that collaborate with each other to overcome all of the restrictions I attempt to enforce. I purchased an automatic Bistro feeder about a year ago to isolate ourselves from the feeding process; the cats found a way to extract food from it almost immediately. After months of being annoyed at all hours of the night by our cats attacking the Bistro, I opted for a Super Feeder.
The Super Feeder arrived unassembled with easy to follow instructions. The assembly process took about five minutes and familiarized me with all of the high quality components. I also purchased a "hood cover" to prevent my little devils from stealing food from the machine. The Super Feeder is brilliantly simple. It comes with a high quality power timer that cycles the power on and off at user set intervals. A small hidden dial controls the length for which the machine dispenses food. This analog control allows for an infinite level of feeding precision (unlike the Bistro's huge intervals). The Super Feeder also features a jumper that will restrict the machine from feeding more than once in a (approximate) 45 minute period. This prevents the machine from feeding more than once in the event of a power interruption during a feeding cycle.
The Super Feeder was made for nerds like me. I have mine attached to a network power controller next to my server cabinet. I wrote several UNIX shell and expect scripts to control the feeding behavior. The cats are fed at every even hour of the day (12 times a day). This prevents the cats from getting too excited when food is dispensed and prevents overeating and eating too quickly. I also authored a password protected website that allows me to feed the cats from anywhere in the universe with the click of a button, as well as capturing a photographic image of the cats eating so I know that they are safe and that the feeder is working correctly. Every time the cats are fed I receive a page to my telephone showing me the output of the scripts to verify that everything is working correctly.
I've had the feeder for a while now and it has proved to be smarter than my mischievous cats. The machine operates quietly, reliably, and consistently. It has never jammed, failed to feed properly, or under/overfed. Support for this product is also wonderful. When I purchased the additional 1.8 gallon food hopper I received answers to my emails within 10 minutes of sending them after 10pm PST. Do yourself a favor, buy this.

Stainless Steel Automatic Pet Feeder - Carbon Black Review

I bought the Pillar Pet Perfect Petfeeder for my husband as a Father's Day Gift. And what a gift it is!! My daughters pitched-in to buy it for him and it is already paying-off. We gave it to my husband the day before Father's Day and he assembled, and programmed it quickly. He got to sleep-in on Father's Day morning because the Perfect Petfeeder fed the cat right at 5:00 A.M. The cat used to paw and meow hubbie awake every morning to eat since we got her last February. Everyone is happy including our cat "Sweetheart"!

Petmate Le Bistro Pet Feeder, 2-Pound Capacity, Bleached Linen Review

Petmate Le Bistro Pet Feeder, 2-Pound Capacity, Bleached Linen
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this feeder at a local big box for my single cat. It fills easily and usage requires little explanation. However, it only functions marginally well. As another reviewer noted, the food does not refill the bowl well. I often come home and find the food kind of stuck at the back of the bowl. A little jiggle to the whole device gets the food to come out. A paw to the food might work as well, but apparently my cat doesn't seem to do this. (Despite being HUNGRY!) The food I am using in it is Purina Complete Care. Perhaps the food shape is a factor, but I think the feed ramp is just not steep enough. YMMV.
Update:
I tried a different food (Science Diet) which is a very small pellet type food. Food still does not fill the bowl well. Leaving the review at two stars.

Made with Microban anti-microbial plastic to prevent odor, stains, and bacteria growth, this automatic pet feeder is perfect for keeping pets nourished while you're away. A tough plastic base holds food reservoir for food on demand. A simple, gravity-feed system means easy maintenance and cleaning. The unit's 2-pound capacity is great for short trips away from smaller pets, though please be sure someone still visits your pet daily!

Van Ness Plastic Auto Feeder for Dogs and Cats Review

Van Ness Plastic Auto Feeder for Dogs and Cats
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'd checked out the other auto feeders out there, and didn't like the idea of sinking $20 into a feeder for our new cat. However, I knew we couldn't take him on vacations with us, and sending him to a kennel didn't seem like the answer. So, I ran across these at a local retail store for just under $4.00 (most well know discount retail store around). It is great! I also have the auto-waterer from Van Ness, and both items are super convenient. I only have to fill them about once per week, and that makes leaving kitty for a day or two no problem. His food does not spill like it did with a conventional food bowl. Filling the waterer without spilling it takes a little practice, but the level meter works great and does not overfill the bowl. I'd recommend these to anyone who is looking for an automatic pet feeding system.

Maze Pets Auto Pet Dish with Automatic Lid Sensor Review

Maze Pets Auto Pet Dish with Automatic Lid Sensor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This doggie bowl does what it's supposed to: it's got a large silver bowl that's removable and easy to clean and holds a good amount of food, the lid operation works as advertised: your dog (or you if you walk by ;-)) steps in front of the bow and the IR sensor causes the lid to pop open. The batteries seem to last a long time, and you have the ability to turn off the lid via a switch in the back.
Why 3 stars? Well, the lid opening and closing is a bit loud; it makes a jarring mechanical "gear" noise. We have a small dog and it scares the bejeesus out of him! While it's really funny, he doesn't want to go anywhere near the bowl..meaning he doesn't eat. So the bowl is pretty useless. If you have a big brave dog, maybe it'll work well. We've resorted to turning off the lid function and just open it for him when it's time to eat.

Cat Mate C20 Automatic Pet Feeder Review

Cat Mate C20 Automatic Pet Feeder
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought my first one at least 10 years ago -- and I actually still have it. I also bought 3 more because they were SO good -- now aside from the usual teeth marks on the edges of the doors and dishes, my cats have not yet broken in.
I had 3 cats at one time and each cat had to eat in their own room with the door closed -- no big deal because they had all the amenities in whatever room they had been placed. Now I have just two (RIP Princess -- 13 yrs old, taken by Cancer). La Large One will steal whatever food is not secured - so she and Cee Cee have their own separate rooms and their own Cat Mates.
With wet food, the ice packs are good for 14-16 hours maximum, depending on the weather -- even with A/C, in the summer the ice packs will melt faster, so I sometimes freeze the 14-16 hr food in its Cat Mate dish before I pop it into the Cat Mate assembly, even WITH the ice pack in the bottom of the assembly (only in the summer)-- the food WILL defrost before the door opens.
The plastic dishes are top-dishwasher safe (for me anyway). The rest of the unit can be wiped with a wet cloth to clean it.
The battery CAN fall out of its niche -- so I would suggest retaining/securing the battery (AA battery) with a bit of mailing tape (AFTER it has been placed inside the battery holder) to ensure that it stays where it belongs and the kitty won't miss a meal or two. Try not to get too much tape on the black box (right above the battery) that contains all the moving clockwork parts.
Turning the dial CLOCKWISE each time you set it will extend the life of the unit.
Sometimes (rare) the dials will pop out of gear -- I've been able to fix that by opening up the little black box (with the clock and gears) on the back of the unit but it is a tricky/delicate operation. I can take apart cars, so perhaps I have a little more experience in working with gizmos.
DON'T drop this unit and it will reward you with many good years. The hinges (where the top of the door swings up) may wear out before the unit does -- I'm a great fan of Mailing tape-- it makes a great emergency hinge, and seems to last a long time. The cats don't care -- as long as the dish door opens.
IF you are feeding outdoor stray/feral cats (and I hope they are all spayed and neutered), I would suggest leaving the feeders in a protected area and remember that raccoons and other critters will try (perhaps successfully) to break into it and possibly harm the kitties as well. Just a word of caution on my part.
IF your catsitter is being entrusted to feed your cats using the Cat Mate C20 feeders please post the instructions on the wall or fridge where s/he can see them -- both of my cat sitters had never used the Cat Mate C20 feeders before, so the instructions were extremely helpful to them (and my kitties!!)

Our Pets Fresh Food Tower Review

Our Pets Fresh Food Tower
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Feral Will, our little rescued and quite neurotic cat, has calmed down considerably since we began using the fresh food tower. He used to gorge when we put out food, then beg when the bowl was empty. Sometimes his begging was while one of us was attempting to go down stairs or walk across a room. Once we left for a long weekend leaving two huge bowls of food so he wouldn't freak out. Uhhh, not such a great idea, he ate every speck of food and I think he must have gained three pounds.
This little, simple tool lets Feral relax. Food is always there so he doesn't have to gorge. Nice. I haven't tripped over him in weeks. We did have to put some tape over the hole to make the hole smaller to slow down the food flow. But that works and Feral is content and my life is easier. Very good return on my investment.

Ergo Systems Auto Pet Feeder Review

Ergo Systems Auto Pet Feeder
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The biggest problem with this item is unreliability: it does NOT dispense food in a predictable manner; in fact the last time we used it, the entire contents of the jar was dispensed. Naturally, the dog ate the whole ten pounds of food. This is not acceptable performance from a product that is supposed to prevent overeating and bloat.
Prior to using unattended, we filled and programmed it as described, and measured the amount of food dispensed each day. What should have been one cup of dry food ranged between five kernels and two cups.
As it comes from the factory, there are many sharp edges in the area where your dog would lick, to get at the food -- these had to be filed and sanded smooth to prevent injury. The bowl is advertised as being easy to remove: too easy. We had to secure it with heavy tape to keep our dog from knocking it loose while eating.
Worst of all, there is no recourse for the unhappy customer; the seller has a policy of refusing to accept returns on an item that has been used, despite the above design flaws.
We certainly will not use it again and run the risk of another emergency trip to the veterinarian for a dog that has eaten too much food.
