(More customer reviews)This feeder is exactly what I expected. High quality, easy to use, and reliable. I previously purchased the two - sided feeder by Petsafe and was very happy. It still works great, but I needed to go away for 4 days and it just didn't have enough slots. It took my cat about a week to get used to the whirring noise that the feeder makes when it rotates the dish; He wouldn't go near it if I didn't stand next to him while he ate. I made it a positive experience for him by putting a small meal in each of the slots (even just a few kibbles) and for a week he got a food reward everytime the machine made the whirring noise. Now he runs to the food dish everytime it whirrs because he knows it means food. I definitely would recommend this product to a client (I am a veterinarian). My only advice is to make sure that you give a few weeks for your pet to adapt to the whirring noise before you leave them alone with the food dish. This also allows you to make sure that you learned to program the dish correctly. As for batteries it takes four. I bought this product in August and it's now November. I have not needed to replace the batteries yet. Some purchasers complained that their pets were able to manipulate the machine to get to food ahead of time, but I have not had this problem. This product would be great for anyone working long hours and needing to feed their pet multiple meals per day, which is recommended for pets needing to lose weight and diabetics.

(More customer reviews)I've had this automatic feeder for 2 years. It works great and has eliminated the screaming my cat used to do before meals. Now she just sits in front of the feeder and waits for it to go off. It holds 6 meals (but one is exposed so it really only has 5 meals). The cover rotates to expose a new meal every 6, 12, or 24 hours. My cat has been very abusive to the machine (because she can smell the food in it) however she has not been able to break the cover or get to any of the other food compartments. If you do force the machine to go backwards the motor will kick on and rotate the cover back to the correct position. My only real problem with the feeder is that the motor is quite loud and drains the battery very quickly. Also as a note, there is no way to set the hour on the feeder, it just goes off 6,12, or 24 hours after you turned it on. So if you want it to always go off at 7am you would need to turn the power on at 7am/pm the first time.

I bought a new one, and it is the best feeder around if you vacation for an extended period of time. The top portion holds two weeks of food, and sits on top of the water well. The water well holds 5 gallons of water and stays cool, since the top portion insulates it and there is continuous water flowing in due to the hose attachment. The renter of my old house recently left, and I found my old feeder. It is none the worse for wear after all of these years, and now I have two.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this feeder at a local big box for my single cat. It fills easily and usage requires little explanation. However, it only functions marginally well. As another reviewer noted, the food does not refill the bowl well. I often come home and find the food kind of stuck at the back of the bowl. A little jiggle to the whole device gets the food to come out. A paw to the food might work as well, but apparently my cat doesn't seem to do this. (Despite being HUNGRY!) The food I am using in it is Purina Complete Care. Perhaps the food shape is a factor, but I think the feed ramp is just not steep enough. YMMV.
Update:
I tried a different food (Science Diet) which is a very small pellet type food. Food still does not fill the bowl well. Leaving the review at two stars.

The only problem this set has is the blue water container because it gets moldy on the inside. The label on it says it won't get moldy but it does. It's hard to clean too, unless you have a brush that can fit through the narrow opening to clean the inside of it. Other than that, it works just fine. It's such a relief to not have to change my dog's water bowl every day too!

(More customer reviews)The biggest problem with this item is unreliability: it does NOT dispense food in a predictable manner; in fact the last time we used it, the entire contents of the jar was dispensed. Naturally, the dog ate the whole ten pounds of food. This is not acceptable performance from a product that is supposed to prevent overeating and bloat.
Prior to using unattended, we filled and programmed it as described, and measured the amount of food dispensed each day. What should have been one cup of dry food ranged between five kernels and two cups.
As it comes from the factory, there are many sharp edges in the area where your dog would lick, to get at the food -- these had to be filed and sanded smooth to prevent injury. The bowl is advertised as being easy to remove: too easy. We had to secure it with heavy tape to keep our dog from knocking it loose while eating.
Worst of all, there is no recourse for the unhappy customer; the seller has a policy of refusing to accept returns on an item that has been used, despite the above design flaws.
We certainly will not use it again and run the risk of another emergency trip to the veterinarian for a dog that has eaten too much food.

Our cat is extremely "vocal" when she wants her food, and insisted on constantly waking us up at 4AM or earlier for her breakfast. After researching options, I chose the Superfeeder based on the reviews. The cheaper ones available in big box pet stores seem to have issues with reliability and protection of the food from persistent cats who stick their paws up the food chute. No such issues with the superfeeder after several weeks of use. The adjustment was very easy, and reasonably consistent with the small kibble Iams food we feed, and the timer was very easy to adjust. The product appears very well built and arrived carefully packaged and partly assembled. Instructions weren't the clearest I've seen, but had pretty good pictures. Had it up and running within 30 minutes of taking my sweet time.
We settled on a 3 times daily feeding cycle, with one in the morning, one in the evening, and one around 2AM. That way the cat gets fed periodically through the day and night, and doesn't have pent up hunger. She's also stopped coming to us, since we no longer provide the food. When she hears the feeder kick on and the food drop into the bowl, she dashes off to the office to eat. Great!

(More customer reviews)I have (6) dogs so getting a feeder that contains a bag of food and dispenses at timed intervals that I set made sense. Unfortunately, the feeder does not work as designed. When the timer goes off a heavy cable at the bottom of the feeder circulates thru the container to stir up the food, loosen it up and drop into the feeding bowl. But the cable would circulate and nothing would fall into the dish. I tried different size dried food but it still won't dispense any food. I looked for clogs but soon realized the cap was preventing food from entering, it either won't open or does not open enough. You would also need to keep this tank at least 1/2 full for it to sometimes work. Finally I have resorted to using it as a storage bin for the food. I scoop the food out myself and put it in the bowl. The large cable that plugs into the wall is unsightly! The design/idea is solid, the actual successful operation is flawed.

Pet Dish 6 Days Review

(More customer reviews)I bought one about 6 months ago, for the same problem as the other reviewer--my cat would pester me at 5:30am. At first, it seemed like a godsend, but I quickly found some major issues with it, and now it's broken. My issues:
1)The 9v battery lasted only about 2-3 weeks, which gets pricey after awhile to keep changing;
2)I had to time my refills of it with the next scheduled feeding (every 6 hrs for my cat), or else his schedule would be thrown off. There was no way to 'set' feeding times. It resets itself every time you refill it. So for example, if I was leaving for the weekend at 2pm, and I normally fed my cat at 6am/pm and 12am/pm, then I had to make sure I cleaned/refilled the feeder precisely at 12pm, or else it would get off-cycle. Perhaps not a big deal for most, but it was frustrating for me to make sure I was home at 12pm or 6pm so I could set it to his schedule. I thought this was supposed to make my life easier?! I found I often had to overfeed him, or let him go longer than 6 hours without a meal in order to coordinate times.
3)At times when I couldn't coordinate the feeder refill to my cat's schedule, and set it for whenever I could, when I got back from being away, there was no way to tell if he had eaten recently or not. My cat certainly wasn't telling me he was full! So I probably ended up overfeeding him at times because he is a master manipulator, and I couldn't tell if he was really hungry or just begging! I started marking one side of the feeder as TOP, then I'd have to count the number of times it rotated to see when he last ate.
4)On that same note, the feeder doesn't know when it's full or not, so if it's turned on, it just keeps rotating until the battery runs out. I once forgot to refill it, and it kept rotating, empty. My cat ended up clawing it to try to get to a full food compartment. Poor kitty! Bad mom!
5)The dial turns VERY slowly, as it is also automated, drawing on that same 9v battery, which is why it drains so fast. My cat waits for the feeder to kick in, so as soon as it starts, he's got his head stuffed into the compartment, and he inadvertently (or purposely!) pushes the lid along, which I think caused it to break.
For me, there were too many factors making it not worth replacing. I ended up spending more at Petsmart on another feeder (C50 Auto Pet Feeder) which only does 5 meals, but it runs on 1 AA battery, and you can 'set' the timer anytime you want. Only the timer draws power. The rest of it is on a simple hinge mechanism, so it swings very fast, is QUIET (unlike the first feeder, which is loud), and isn't dependent on what time of day you refill it. One other feature is that it has a finite turning radius, so when the feeder is empty, it knows, and it won't keep rotating. To restart it, I have to reset the clock, then turn the lid back around on that same simple hinge mechanism, in the opposite direction. It's REALLY easy to reset, but what's good is that if I forget to refill it, it doesn't taunt my cat with an empty bowl by continuing to rotate.
It also has a battery-life counter so you can see when your battery needs replacing, as well as a cover for the timer mechanism so your cat won't bump it or otherwise damage it.
I've had it 4 weeks now, and the same AA battery is going strong, and it's a breeze to use. I only wish it had more compartments, but I'm more than satisfied with it!

(More customer reviews)After looking around for an auto feeder it seemed like they all had some issue, but this had mostly positive reviews so I figured I'd give it a try. I bought two so each of my cats could have one. Unfortunately one of them did not work upon arrival so I sent it back and had a new one sent within a week. A few things to point out based on other reviewers problems.
1. Programming is quite easy if you just follow the instructions, it took me about 2 minutes to have it set up and ready to go.
2. If you attach the container and lid on properly your cat will not be able to get into it.
3. It will only take a day or two for your cat to realize if it sticks its arm up the food chute it can get a piece or two out but it's probably more of a hassle than your cat will want to deal with after a few tries.
4. If you are using normal dry cat food (which is smaller than the 1/2" recommended size on the instructions) the portion control isn't very accurate. I found I had to just set it 1/4 cup smaller than I actually wanted them to have.
Once you figure out a few of the quirks of this product it will work without problems. Both of mine have made my life much easier since the cats know I don't control their food anymore than just sit around until they hear the food being portioned out by the auto feeder.
