(More customer reviews)This feeder is exactly what I expected. High quality, easy to use, and reliable. I previously purchased the two - sided feeder by Petsafe and was very happy. It still works great, but I needed to go away for 4 days and it just didn't have enough slots. It took my cat about a week to get used to the whirring noise that the feeder makes when it rotates the dish; He wouldn't go near it if I didn't stand next to him while he ate. I made it a positive experience for him by putting a small meal in each of the slots (even just a few kibbles) and for a week he got a food reward everytime the machine made the whirring noise. Now he runs to the food dish everytime it whirrs because he knows it means food. I definitely would recommend this product to a client (I am a veterinarian). My only advice is to make sure that you give a few weeks for your pet to adapt to the whirring noise before you leave them alone with the food dish. This also allows you to make sure that you learned to program the dish correctly. As for batteries it takes four. I bought this product in August and it's now November. I have not needed to replace the batteries yet. Some purchasers complained that their pets were able to manipulate the machine to get to food ahead of time, but I have not had this problem. This product would be great for anyone working long hours and needing to feed their pet multiple meals per day, which is recommended for pets needing to lose weight and diabetics.

Lentek 6-Day Automatic Pet Dish Review

(More customer reviews)I've had this automatic feeder for 2 years. It works great and has eliminated the screaming my cat used to do before meals. Now she just sits in front of the feeder and waits for it to go off. It holds 6 meals (but one is exposed so it really only has 5 meals). The cover rotates to expose a new meal every 6, 12, or 24 hours. My cat has been very abusive to the machine (because she can smell the food in it) however she has not been able to break the cover or get to any of the other food compartments. If you do force the machine to go backwards the motor will kick on and rotate the cover back to the correct position. My only real problem with the feeder is that the motor is quite loud and drains the battery very quickly. Also as a note, there is no way to set the hour on the feeder, it just goes off 6,12, or 24 hours after you turned it on. So if you want it to always go off at 7am you would need to turn the power on at 7am/pm the first time.

(More customer reviews)My girlfriend is a vet and says that cats should be feed twice a day the recommended amount on the food can. Open feeding leads to over weight, knee problems and diabetic cats. This feeder works decent. Positives include easy to program, different or same feed times everyday, ability to adjust amount of food easily, chew proof cord and it is quiet. Negatives include auger is easily reached by cat allowing about 10 extra kibbles to fall out if the cat plays with it enough. It only took my cat about a week to figure this out. I have not had any problems since its purchase and my cats no longer wake me for food at 3 am. I built a divider so the food goes into two bowls, one for each cat, and it works good.
This unit is pricey but works well. The quality of the product seems cheap for the price, but nothing has malfunctioned. Definitely recommend to anyone who is annoyed in the middle of the night for food or needs to leave the cat alone for a weekend.

(More customer reviews)I've owned this feeder for almost a month and so far I like it a good deal. It is solidly made, and the lid locks which is a useful feature (keeps both my pet and my 3-year old from getting at the excess food!). It is a little tricky to program, which is why I gave it 4 rather than 5 stars. But if you read the instructions closely, and remember that it will always show you the time of the NEXT scheduled feeding (rather than the current time) you should be OK. Also the first time you program it check how much food it is actually dispensing. I set it for 1/4 cup but it actually serves 1/2 cup (probably due to the size of the cat food I'm using), so I had to adjust the number of meals accordingly. It does make a sort of strange whirring sound when delivering the food and it takes about a full minute to slowly put out the food, but it's quiet enough and seems to be dependable. I'd recommend it over the Petmate model, which I used before and which was cheaply made and kept breaking on me.

(More customer reviews)We purchased this feeder about two months ago so that we could leave our cats for a few days while traveling, and so that we could do a better job enforcing the diet we have them on. We kept an eye on it for a couple weeks before leaving the cats alone over Thanksgiving. By the time Thanksgiving rolled around, we didn't have the faintest doubt that the feeder could be trusted to do its thing reliably and without breaking (despite the cats' best attempts to destroy it). This feeder is industrial grade, plain and simple. Everything about it is heavy duty. If you want a feeder you can really trust, this is the one to get. I wouldn't totally trust any others on the market.
The more mischievous of our two cats figured out how to stick her paw in the machine and get a few more kernals out. Purchasing the accessory hood solved that problem, though. If you have a clever cat, you should just get the hood to begin with. I think it will come pre-installed that way, too, which is nice because you have to disassemble the machine to install it.
The feeder itself is simple and foolproof. The most complicated part of setting it up is programming the timer. You can choose whatever timer you want, though, so it is as simple or difficult as you make it.
I contacted the seller a couple times when I first placed the order, and when ordering the accessory hood later. The company is amazingly responsive -- like others have said, I even got a reply to an email on a weekend within an hour!
If you need a cat feeder, this is the one to get. It is more than worth the extra cost over other feeders.

Maze Pets Auto Pet Dish with Automatic Lid Sensor Review

(More customer reviews)This doggie bowl does what it's supposed to: it's got a large silver bowl that's removable and easy to clean and holds a good amount of food, the lid operation works as advertised: your dog (or you if you walk by ;-)) steps in front of the bow and the IR sensor causes the lid to pop open. The batteries seem to last a long time, and you have the ability to turn off the lid via a switch in the back.
Why 3 stars? Well, the lid opening and closing is a bit loud; it makes a jarring mechanical "gear" noise. We have a small dog and it scares the bejeesus out of him! While it's really funny, he doesn't want to go anywhere near the bowl..meaning he doesn't eat. So the bowl is pretty useless. If you have a big brave dog, maybe it'll work well. We've resorted to turning off the lid function and just open it for him when it's time to eat.

Replacement Ice Pack for the C-20 and C-50 Ani Mate Small Dog/Cat Feeders Review

(More customer reviews)When I tried to use this ice pack in my C-20 feeder, it seemed to be too big by less than a quarter inch. I contacted the sellers who told me I had a slightly older version of the C-20 which is why it didn't work. They were very apologetic and offered a refund. Because I found no alternative products, I threw the ice packs in the freezer and decided to give it one more shot. To my amazement, when frozen, the ice packs expanded in such a way that they actually fit into the feeder with just a little push. Now that they're working, I love the two I own and plan to buy more.

Our cat is extremely "vocal" when she wants her food, and insisted on constantly waking us up at 4AM or earlier for her breakfast. After researching options, I chose the Superfeeder based on the reviews. The cheaper ones available in big box pet stores seem to have issues with reliability and protection of the food from persistent cats who stick their paws up the food chute. No such issues with the superfeeder after several weeks of use. The adjustment was very easy, and reasonably consistent with the small kibble Iams food we feed, and the timer was very easy to adjust. The product appears very well built and arrived carefully packaged and partly assembled. Instructions weren't the clearest I've seen, but had pretty good pictures. Had it up and running within 30 minutes of taking my sweet time.
We settled on a 3 times daily feeding cycle, with one in the morning, one in the evening, and one around 2AM. That way the cat gets fed periodically through the day and night, and doesn't have pent up hunger. She's also stopped coming to us, since we no longer provide the food. When she hears the feeder kick on and the food drop into the bowl, she dashes off to the office to eat. Great!

(More customer reviews)I have (6) dogs so getting a feeder that contains a bag of food and dispenses at timed intervals that I set made sense. Unfortunately, the feeder does not work as designed. When the timer goes off a heavy cable at the bottom of the feeder circulates thru the container to stir up the food, loosen it up and drop into the feeding bowl. But the cable would circulate and nothing would fall into the dish. I tried different size dried food but it still won't dispense any food. I looked for clogs but soon realized the cap was preventing food from entering, it either won't open or does not open enough. You would also need to keep this tank at least 1/2 full for it to sometimes work. Finally I have resorted to using it as a storage bin for the food. I scoop the food out myself and put it in the bowl. The large cable that plugs into the wall is unsightly! The design/idea is solid, the actual successful operation is flawed.

Qpets Large Automatic Electronic Programmable Portion Control Dog Cat Pet Feeder AF-100 Review

(More customer reviews)I've been using the PetMate LeBistro feeders for years. I got my LeBistros initially thinking that they might deter my cats from waking me up for breakfast before I was ready to wake up. They worked well to that end, but the LeBistros were problematic from the start: They'd sometimes jam up & fail to distribute food, the cats figured out how to stick their paws up & get extra food in between meals, and one stopped working altogether after about a year.
I decided to try this feeder as a possible alternative to the LeBistros. I've only had it working for one day, so these are initial observations. First, the positives: The cats cannot reach up & steal food. The food hatch closes completely, so there is no way a cat can get more food than is distributed.
This feeder was somewhat difficult to program, but no more difficult than LeBistro, and perhaps easier. In addition, some sites advertise the minimum portion size as 1/4 cup, others advertise it as 1/2 cup. Nevertheless, the instructions do specify 1/4 cup and I programmed it for that amount. However, the amount dispensed seemed significantly more than that, though the cat scarfed the food down before I could dish it into a measuring cup to assess that for sure. EXPERIMENT FOR MULTI-CAT HOUSEHOLDS
I'm also trying an experiment with this feeder... I have three cats. I could buy three feeders (I had two LeBistros when I had two cats) but besides the expense and the space required for multiple electronic feeders, the biggest consideration for me is ensuring that each cat is getting his/her fair share. I could never set my feeders to go off at EXACTLY the same time. Inevitably, one would go off first, and the fastest/most aggressive cat would quickly consume the food in that feeder, and, then, when the second feeder went off, that same cat would run to that feeder leaving the more mild mannered cat without food.
I thought about retrofitting the dish to make it wider so that all three cats could eat out of the bowl at the same time (and, of course, adjusting the amount of food dispensed at each meal) but I'm not so crafty. A friend suggested I try removing the dish (it comes off easily), putting the feeder up on a stool, and putting a dish large enough for the three cats to eat out of underneath. I tried it with an 16" oval serving dish and it worked pretty well. Because the feeder is (now) up on a stool, initially some of the food bounced off the dish. I replaced it with a larger, 18" oval serving dish with deeper sides. That helped. I'm still playing with this idea, but, so far, so good.
*Initially, I put the feeder on an 8" stool with the oval serving dish below. I just switched the stool for a 2" cardboard box, mostly to limit food bouncing out of the serving dish. At the same time that I don't want the food to bounce off, I also don't want it to just dispense into one single pile - I want it to spread in the dish so all three cats can eat without having to shove each other's noses out of the way.
If I can feed all three cats at the same time with this one Feeder, it will have been very well worth it!

Petmate Le Bistro Portion-Control Automatic Pet Feeder Review

(More customer reviews)After looking around for an auto feeder it seemed like they all had some issue, but this had mostly positive reviews so I figured I'd give it a try. I bought two so each of my cats could have one. Unfortunately one of them did not work upon arrival so I sent it back and had a new one sent within a week. A few things to point out based on other reviewers problems.
1. Programming is quite easy if you just follow the instructions, it took me about 2 minutes to have it set up and ready to go.
2. If you attach the container and lid on properly your cat will not be able to get into it.
3. It will only take a day or two for your cat to realize if it sticks its arm up the food chute it can get a piece or two out but it's probably more of a hassle than your cat will want to deal with after a few tries.
4. If you are using normal dry cat food (which is smaller than the 1/2" recommended size on the instructions) the portion control isn't very accurate. I found I had to just set it 1/4 cup smaller than I actually wanted them to have.
Once you figure out a few of the quirks of this product it will work without problems. Both of mine have made my life much easier since the cats know I don't control their food anymore than just sit around until they hear the food being portioned out by the auto feeder.
