Tidy Cats Breeze Litter Box System Review

Tidy Cats Breeze Litter Box System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had this for a few weeks, and I'm really happy with it.
The hugest advantage to this system is the urine is separated from the 'litter' and odor is greatly reduced. The litter consist of pellets similar in shape/size to the wood-based natural litters, but they are of a hard clay, which doesn't break down with moisture, and they keep their shape. Thus, the urine drains straight down through a grid to the pad (in its own slide-out drawer), and the poo stays on top to be scooped away.
The pee will not ferment with the characteristic stench, and you don't have to deal with clumping litter which doesn't really clump, and is just plain stinky and messy to scoop up.
The proprietary 'pee' pads are kind of like a giant maxi pad, and absorb a lot of liquid. Also, the bottom side of the pad is plastic, and the pad fits into the tray in a way that the plastic is upturned to keep the tray itself dry. Maintenance consists of merely taking the drawer out to the trash, and sliding the pad out, putting in a new one, and sliding the drawer back into the bottom of the box.
The litter itself are hard pellets, which hardly get tracked, and it is 100% dustless. A pellet or two stick to paws, but are easily picked up and tossed back into the box. Scooping is easy, and if the poo is dry, you can kind of shake it around in the scoop to knock off some of the pellets, then throw it in the trash instead of wasting water with a toilet flush.
It takes mere seconds to maintain the box vs. 10 minutes of scooping and scraping soggy clumping litter which doesn't really clump, but falls apart.
When it's time to change the litter (once a month), it just pours into the trash, no scraping the soggy wet concrete of old.
Some say you get a 'poo' smell, since kitties can't bury it quite like they did with the old type of litter, but I'll take that over the overpowering stench of fermented urine any day. And, the smell goes away quite shortly, just like human smell in the bathroom. Note that you should just use one bag of the pellets in the box, the litter won't be as deep. I just give the box a quick shake daily to even it back out.
Cat adaption to the new box: This won't work for everyone, but this is what I did: I set up the new Breeze system next to the old box (which was fairly gross, as I let it get bad) to see what would happen. I placed a clump of the old litter into the new box to let him know it was 'his.' My 9 year old fellow was pretty much using the new box right away (probably out of curiousity more than anything). After 3 days or so, I removed the old box and inserted it directly into the garbage, never to be dealt with again. No problems, 100% compliance on Max's part.
If Tidy Cats came out with a fully hooded version of the box, it would be great for the folks who have standing pee-ers, but my fellow doesn't do that, so I'm lucky.
Finally, some say the pellets and pads are expensive, but I estimate the cost as about equal to the old style of box over the long run - and the convenience and ease of maintenance should erase any other doubt.
Also, this system has the potential of keeping tons of conventional clay litter out of landfills.
Highly recommended.

SecondNature Dog Litter Review

SecondNature Dog Litter
Average Reviews:

During the frigid winter, we brought home two toy fox terrier/pug mixes, and this has helped out immensely! At 1.4 pounds, they were to small to go outside to go potty, so they could go in the litter pan anytime they had to go. We had very little difficulty in teaching the dogs where to go. It is ideal for us, because we work longs shifts and are not home on some days for 10+ hours. Great for those who just moved, or are about to move to new construction home sites--it keeps the dogs out of the mud and dirt! The dogs do tend to eat the litter, but it is not harmful, and their stool is not difficult to pass when they have digested it. And, as the dogs have grown, we have gotten progressively bigger with the size of the litter pan. I would not recommend this for a larger size dog!

Feline Pine Original Cat Litter, 40-Pound Bags Review

Feline Pine Original Cat Litter, 40-Pound Bags
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Feline pine is the best litter if you use it correctly and make sure to get all the moisture in contact with the pellets.
What I was pleasantly shocked to find out is that FP is NOT a new concept. It is just new marketing. FP is the same as stall pellets used for livestock. You can get the EXACT product for $6-7 per 40 lbs bag at a local feed store. I live in the city and don't have a local feed store but while driving on vacation passed one and picked up several bags.
If you can't get to a feed store. FP is also the same as SOME stove pellets. Buy pellets with no additives if you buy stove pellets. FP = stall pellets = stove pellets (wo accelerators).
Keep using this litter but save yourself a lot of money by getting the unmarketed product. Feel free to call Feline Pine who will confirm that their price is because of advertising. Kudos to then for getting the product to the masses though. They are a great company.

ONLINE ONLY CAREFRESH LITTER ULTRA Review

ONLINE ONLY CAREFRESH LITTER ULTRA
Average Reviews:

I had my doubts about this litter. All my small animals have always been on aspen shavings..until now. I switched to Carefresh Ultra and my pets love it. My mouse, Mr. Squeakums, has an allergy to aspen, but he's fine on the Carefresh. The litter is very soft, dust free and has no odor. It also controls urine odor and masks any musk smells that the animal may produce. I highly recommend this bedding for small pets such as rats, mice, gerbils and hamsters.Another good point about this bedding is it's shred-ability. My pets shred it and make a soft bed out of it. Carefresh Ultra really is a better litter.

Carefresh Pet Bedding Review

Carefresh Pet Bedding
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got a sample of Carefresh Colors from the petstore when I bought the Hamster cage kit and loved it. I've owned guinea pigs, rats and hamsters before but had never used Carefresh Colors. I was impressed with its softness and its ability to absorb fluids and odors.
It was time for me to buy some more bedding and I thought Carefresh was pretty much the same as Carefresh Colors, except that Carefresh was less colorful. Out of the bag, I was a little disappointed, because the bedding was not as soft and fluffy as Carefresh Colors. It has more the texture of something I might expect if maybe I wet a bunch of newspaper, wadded it up, let it dry and then shredded what was left. It's rough and dry.
My hamsters don't seem to mind the change. They shred the Carefresh to make it fluffier for the little corner they like to burrow in. It's just as absorbent as the Carefresh Colors and controls odors just as well. The cage smells nice and fresh. Although it's not as pretty as Carefresh Colors, there is an advantage to it being a drab grey, the feces don't show.
If softness and bright color is important to you and your small pet, get Carefresh Colors. If hiding the feces is more important, regular Carefresh is best. If you are looking for absorbance and odor control, they both work equally well.
_____________
UPDATE: I did not like the first batch of Carefresh, which I based this review on. However, my second batch of Carefresh from a different is a lot nicer. It's softer and ligher in color.
Although I still prefer the softness of the Colors, regular Carefresh does have advantages. The hamsters like to clean their cage of poop. When they see it, they throw it outside the cage. With the Colors, there's poop everywhere. They don't seem to see poop as well with the regular Carefresh, so I don't get so much poop all over outside the cage.

This litter is perfect for my ferrets. They don't get it in their feet and fur and drag it around the cage like the other litters. They almost never cough now. It's easy to scrape the litter off the bottom of the cage as needed.

Van Ness Cat Litter Scoop (Assorted Colors) Review

Van Ness Cat Litter Scoop (Assorted Colors)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This poop scooper is overpriced and too small. The slits to filter the litter are too wide. I've scooped alot of litter in my lifetime and didn't realize you could buy a "bad" litter scooper. This one is just a pain to use for the aforementioned reasons. You're better off getting a Boots and Barkley scooper for a $1.47 at Target.
2 stars because it isn't COMPLETELY useless...
