Prior to Natural Balance, the only way we could get our cats to eat dry food was to mix it with warm water and a half can of canned cat food, usually Iams or Friskies when money was low. Our local feed store recommended Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance as a healthy and tasty alternative. Our adult cats love it...no more "hunger strikes" holding out for canned food. Even our kittens started eating it at only 8 weeks, when mixed with a bit of warm water. Since there are no 'fillers', the cats are eating less to become full, which to me justifies the higher price.

They indeed have an eating problem in picking up the dry food.

(More customer reviews)Chances are if you are looking at Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance, you are looking into finding a quality cat food for you animals. I'm a firm believer in buying the best quality foods for my animals in order to ensure their optimum good health, especially since the 2007 pet food recalls from melamine adulterated food. Initially, when I purchased this food that didn't factor into my decision.
I had a long-haired cat who gifted me with hairballs on a frequent basis. A friend told me about this food and swore by it, claiming her rugs and furniture no longer suffered from constant scrubbing. I decided to give Natural Balance a try and was amazed at the results. I no longer have that cat, but did inherit another long-haired cutie pie who LOVES this food. I changed her food to this one a month ago, gradually mixing it with her previous food, and it somehow helps her body minimize the hairball activity. I want her to be healthy and happy and find the expense to be well worth it. This is brief blurb from their website, information that can be found on the bag as well:

If you need to find out more, you can check out this food at Petco, where I purchased it, or head to the Natural Balance website. Of course everyone has their own opinion and will look at several factors when purchasing for their animals. You and only you know your needs, but I find that this food satisfies not only mine (I don't have to invest in so many paper towels), but obviously that of my cat. I was using a perfectly acceptable organic food, but when I mixed this with it ... well, lets just say she likes Natural better than organic. I'm happy if she's happy and I'm not constantly cleaning up after her these days!

My maine coon had the same problem and being long hair her soft stool issue wasn't pretty. Within days of feeding her this food wet and dry her problem stopped. Her poo does smell terrible but it's been like that with every good quality food she's had. In all I highly recommend this food to anyone who has a cat with digestion, loose stool issues.

I have bought this item for three years from a local retailer who stopped handling it. It has always been vaccuum sealed. This shipment arrived with two of the bags not sealed. The externel shipping boxes were not damaged so I must assume they were shipped to me from the retailer in the broken seal condition. I buy in quantity so the vacuum seal is important to me.

(More customer reviews)I did a lot of reading on cat food after my picky Siamese mix started losing weight slowly since she refused to eat anything my local grocery stores offered, including the more expensive brands. No matter how much I seemed to spend on what passes for "regular" cat foods she looked terrible.
It is definitely a dense food, but that just means I fill up the bowl less often - usually once a day, down from two or more when my younger cat was eating constantly because the food I gave them had so little real food in it! From the way my cats' condition has improved, it appears to be a very healthy food as well. I saw the difference in my Siamese mix's coat less than a week after switching from what was basically fish flavored corn cereal to this - her coat is shiny again and she has definitely gained back some weight on Blue Wilderness. My cats will push each other out of the way to have the first bite after their bowl is empty. My picky eater even eats Blue Wilderness kibble straight from the floor if it's given as a treat.
I have tried several other "holistic" and "real food" cat foods, but this one is definitely the most preferred by me (Amazon.com makes it very affordable compared to my local pet stores) and my two cats. I am happy to have found a somewhat reasonably priced, nutritious cat food - most cat foods belong in the cereal aisle or are so expensive that I would probably have to sell my car to afford them. Blue Wilderness strikes a nice balance.

I can avoid the annoying high-end pet food store with the shrieking parrots and the constant demands to donate or upgrade or repeat my phone number aloud for everyone in line. They don't even offer to take the heavy bags to the car any longer, which was a problem when I had lifting limits.

(More customer reviews)Now I know many people would rather spend $30 on something else rather than their cat food, but I have to say this cat food is great. Ever since I switched to this from Nutro brand cat food, my cats now have shinier and healthier coats, as well as more energy. My overweight cat has lost some weight too. Both my 2 year old and my 9 year old love this food. Though the price is a bit high, I think it's worth it for my cats. They're much more active and healthy after switching to this. They also eat less, as the food is more rich.
This food is 45% protein, so it's really good for your cats. Also, it's a cheaper alternative to Innova EVO and Core Wellness cat foods, which have slightly higher protein content but higher price. In case you were wondering, all cheap cat foods will usually have around 10% of protein.... This is carnivore food we're talking about here! They can't even use most of the filler other foods have, it just contributes to empty calories and overweight kitties!
Do your cats a favor and buy them this, it'll make them healthier and I promise you'll notice the difference within a couple days. Oh by the way, since this is full of protein, their poops WILL get stinkier. Now my two cats BOMB the place after buying this food, the smell is something similar to human poop after a big meaty meal! LOL. To me though, it's worth it. Just remember to keep some Febreeze handy!

The vet said the kittens had to eat something other than what my older cat was (she was on prescription science diet-like that's not expensive). As all cat owners know, it's nearly impossible to separate them and eat their "own food". I did lots of reasearch and found Orijen. All three cats have been eating this food for 3 years. Guess what? No medical issues...At All! I've been so pleased with this food and how healthy and happy my cats are. I will never purchase anything else for my cats. You might think it may be a little expensive, but not having to take my cats to the vet is worth every penny saved.
