When I opened the shipping box, I found a zip lock plastic bag with all of the sticks contained loosely within. There was no labeling at all on the bag or in the box. If you are like me you like to know the product information especially country of origin, preparation method, and manufacturer. The HPD information states that these sticks come from free-roaming bulls, but, who knows what I received. The smell of the product is sickly sweet and fairly pungent.
What was most disappointing though was the size of the sticks. An average size is about 1/2 inch in parameter. Many are around 1/4 inch. Only a few are close to 1 inch.
My cocker spaniel plowed through one of these sticks in about five minutes. Hardly the distraction that I intended.
Typically I purchase Cadet 12" bully sticks, cutting them down to 4 inch sticks. Cadet sticks are wide, have very little smell and contain product information. My dog takes about 30 minutes with these. Going forward I will order the Cadets.

Although they were not flavored as some of the rawhide sticks are, that didn't seem to bother my pets. In this case there were 150 sticks compared to 100 in most other brands. I certainly would buy again. Great price.

Merrick Hungry Dog Value Pack - 2 lb. Review

(More customer reviews)I have purchased three of these now, and the quality and types of treats in the bag is really all over the place. The first bag I bought had a great variety of really fantastic treats that my dogs went crazy for. Several big chunks of snout, a few bully sticks, TONS of cow tails, two halves of a huge twin hoofer, a little rawhide, and other bits and pieces. I felt that this bag was an incredible value given the wide variety of chews, and the specific chews included (some of which can be expensive when bought on their own), and my dogs loved everything, so I quickly ordered two more. I was much less impressed with the second two. The second bag I got was almost exclusively rawhide, with a few cow ears and a cow tail thrown in. Needless to say, I was not very happy with this bag, and my dogs weren't impressed either. I do realize that you always run the risk of getting disappointing results when you purchase any kind of grab bag, so I guess that's just how it goes. The third bag had a lot of rawhide again, and also included just a few tails, a couple of small bones, and a few pieces of snout. Not great, but not completely terrible.
All in all, I'd say these are worth a try, but just be aware that not every bag is a good one. Maybe if you could find these somewhere to buy in person so you could peek inside at the contents to make sure you're getting a good bag (part of the front of the bag is clear so you can see inside), it would be a much better buy, but buying online, it's very possible that you could end up with basically a bag full of rawhide and a few other bits and pieces. Then again, you could also end up with a bag with a great variety of fantastic chews, like I did the first time I ordered this. It's all up to chance.
Edit 03/01/11: I recently purchased two more of these, and these two were just like the first bag I got: big variety, all great chews that my dogs love, and a good value, since some of the chews included can expensive when purchased on their own. Because I've been extremely happy with three out of the five bags I've purchased, satisfied with another, and only disappointed by one, I've decided to give this product 4 stars instead of my origonal 3.

DINGO LARGE WHITE 3 PK VALUE BAG Review

I did shop around and the price from this seller seemed to be the best, especially when taking into account shipping costs. This product would have gotten five stars from me were it not for the cost per chew.

The Whole Dog Journal did an article about how many other rawhide dog chews are treated with an amazing list of chemicals when they are shipped to China or Mexico for processing. Some get so rotten looking they are bleached or dyed or sometimes painted with a whitening agent to cover this up.
The Wholesome Hides are from US cattle and do not leave the country. They are rolled from a single piece of hide that also maintains its collagen. Cheaper rawhide chews can be made of multiple small pieces that are loosened as the dog chews and can become a choking hazard or are made from split hides creating such thin brittle pieces they can tear the gut.
It's good to find something to make my dog happy that I can also feel good about.
It would be nice if they were within the Prime program for shipping and if the middle size was offered here.

(More customer reviews)These rawhide rolls cost a little more but are not preserved w/ lye, salt other poisons, and are not bleached and processed from dead, dying or disabled animals and left to sit on a ship from overseas for 3 weeks to rot further. They are very tightly rolled, thick rawhide which will take most large or small dogs several weeks to conquer because them come from American raised stock animals whose hides are naturally thicker than those of animals from other countries.

However, they are expensive compared to other dog treats and after our dogs have chewed out the meat filling, they leave the rawhide cover on the floor and beg for another Dingo even though they haven't finished the first one. Pig Ears seem to be a better value for the money because the dogs eat the entire treat and end up spending more time exercising their teeth. I'll save the Dingos for very special occasions.

(More customer reviews)Our 2 Dogs (German Shep Mix & Flat Coated Retriever) have eaten all sizes (mini, small, medium, large, rings, goof balls) daily for over 4 years and have never had a problem of any kind. They love these things almost as much as going for a ride in the car and that's saying a lot. They are perfect because not only does the rawhide provide the chewing dogs need for their teeth but they have a meaty middle that adds flavor to what would otherwise be a plain white bone. We wouldn't trade these Dingo bones for anything, they are the best!!!!!!
