(More customer reviews)I have used this product for two months now. It was recommended by my cat's veterinarian. My cat has feline herpes. This ailment gives him occasional eye infections. Part of his treatment is supplementation with the L-Lysine. It works, but is part of a gradual healing process. This is the easiest form of L-Lysine to give to my cat. He really likes it. With any L-Lysine supplement, keep in mind that one side effect is increased appetite.
I do agree that calling these "soft chews" is a joke. They are tough jerky-like pellets. My cat is a Maine Coon and twice the size of an average cat. He has a big jaw and big teeth. When I give him these chews it takes him awhile to chew and swallow these.
Most forms of L-Lysine are dependent on your cat eating moist canned food. My cat currently eats dry. Previously, I have used two other forms of L-Lysine. One was a gel called Viralys, this has to be added to wet/canned cat food. It is expensive, is difficult to measure and is used up quite quickly. The other L-Lysine form I tried was (human grade) capsules from Twin Lab supplements. You have to open up the capsule and sprinkle it on the moist cat food. This was a relatively easy and inexpensive treatment. However it is still dependent on moist food. Right now I prefer the L-Lysine chews. I give my cat 2 chews twice a day and it lasts a month. When the symptoms subside I will reduce my cat's treatment to once a day for health maintenance.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this product a few weeks ago for my 2 year old Brittany Spaniel who began to have mild urinary incontinence issues after she was spayed. (I did not want to put her on hormones or other meds) I must say that I did not expect much, however, I noticed improvement within 2 days! She used to leak drops of urine when she came in from outside or when she got excited, since starting this supplement, I have not seen one single drop!I have been giving her one pill a day and so far, so good! I am impresssed- whatever this has in it seems to be working like a charm! If you have a "leaky" puppy, give it a try. I hope it continues doing the job!

(More customer reviews)I have a 100lb dog, an Akita who HATES taking pills. She has NOT had Pill Pockets for Dogs, but she HAS had Pill Pockets for CATS. Now, before you click the "No" button after "Was this review helpful to you?", read further -- my comments will be of value to those with dogs that take SMALL pills!
Andie has been taking pills for hypothyroidism for the past 9 years. Her pills are TINY. Wrapping them in meat or cheese never worked; she simply ate around the pill or spit it out. For years the only way I could get Andie to take pills was to, literally, shove them down her throat. (My hands are small enough and her mouth is big enough for me to do this. Thankfully she's a very trusting dog!)
Then one day I was at the vet and noticed packages of something called "Pill Pockets". They had two kinds -- one for dogs and one for cats. Both came in flavors that Andie would like, but the dog Pill Pockets came in different sizes (small and large) while the cat Pill Pockets only came in one size (small).
I looked at each package very carefully and noticed that the packages for cats had 45 Pill Pockets, while the packages for small dogs only had 35 Pill Pockets. And yet, the packages for small dogs cost MORE than the packages for cats -- huh? (On Amazon.com they are the same price, but the quantities are different.) So I looked at Andie's tiny thyroid pills, then looked at the Pill Pocket pictures on the packages and decided, "I might as well save myself a buck and buy the kitty Pill Pockets. What the hey, Andie won't know she's eating something intended for cats!"
I've been happy with that decision ever since.
I've bought both the salmon- and chicken-flavored Pill Pockets FOR CATS and Andie likes them both. The pockets are the perfect size, just big enough for her thyroid pills, and to date she has gulped down every one, then begged for another! And I like the fact that I get 10 more in each package than I would if I bought the Pill Pockets "for dogs".
Pill Pockets are GREAT product, for cats OR dogs. I wish I had discovered them sooner! While I have never used the Pill Pockets for Dogs, I am 100% confident that they are excellent. That's why I'm giving this product 5 stars. If Andie's pills were bigger I would get the Pill Pockets for Dogs, and I know she would like them just as much. For the time being, though, I will stick with the smaller Pill Pockets for Cats, since they last a few days longer.
So, this review is to pass along an idea that perhaps some dog owners had not considered: If your dog takes tiny pills like Andie does, go with the more economical choice and get Pill Pockets for Cats. Your dog will never know the difference!

Azodyl, 60 Capsules Review

(More customer reviews)I have been giving my 9 yr old cat Azodyl for about 8 months now. He has had CRF for about 3 1/2 yrs and I have been feeding him Royal Canin or Hill's K/D Rx food, giving him Pepcid A/C once a day (1/2 tab) and vitamin paste every couple of days. About every 5 months, he would go down and not want to eat and taking him to the vet and giving him sub-Q fluids was the only way to get back on track. Finally, 8 months ago, even this was not working. Every few months I would conduct a web research to see if anything new was available for CRf and this time around I came upon Azodyl and Epakitin - I shared my research with my vet, he reviewed my cat's recent blood workup and suggested that since his Calicum levels were ok, that Epakitin might not be beneficial but that Azodyl - being a probiotic would not hurt. I purchased a bottle and received it within two days (using 2-3 day delivery) and it arrived cold - I used Entirely Pets but it appears several of the online pet stores follow the same shipping protocol and send this item packed with cold packs in an insulated aluminum bag and box. Within a few days, he was eating again - Hill's K/D. My cat was down to 7-3/4 pounds (medium sized cat) and over the next couple of weeks I purchased a 3 month supply. Within about 2 or 3 months, his weight was back to about 10 pounds. He looks good, his fur is shiny, he is back to being playful and is in marvelous shape. It literally is a miracle cure.
I have a couple of suggestions. I give him the Azodyl, first thing in the morning and another at about 5PM. For the morning feeding, I clean his bowl carefully (no soap residue) and ensure he eats before I administer the pill. I want to ensure that he is not going to throw up (he still does but about every 5 to 6 days vs. every day or every other - and alot less now). And to ensure he has a little saliva from the recent eating to allow the pill to go down smoother. I administer the Pepcid later in the evening and I also try to get him to eat before bedtime. I also have a waterer and I keep it refreshed with clean water a couple times a day. And I also give him some tartar treats (only about two) and one other treat that has Omegas (from Trader Joes) - only 2 a day also.
I also am finding that a 3 month supply might be too long - it appears the 3rd bottle starts to go bad as he starts to not want to eat, I have reordered at the 2-1/2 month mark, I get the Azodyl and within a couple of days he is right back on track. Not sure if I need to keep my fridge a bit cooler but otherwise, this Azodyl is wonderful stuff, hope this helps!!

Greenies Pill Pockets for Cats, Chicken, 1.6 ounce Review

(More customer reviews)I have three older cats who take arthritis pills. One also takes a thyroid pill. I decided to try the pill pockets. For the first month or so, they all loved them, and they made it easy to give the pills. However, after three months:
One cat still loves them. I have to watch her carefully or she will steal the pills from the others.
One cat has figured out how to eat around the pill.
One cat sometimes takes them, but at other times just sniffs the pocket and skips it.
I have figured out a few tricks that help:
There are two types of pockets for cats: chicken and salmon. The chicken is slightly larger and more pliable and works better with larger pills. However, I think that the cats find the salmon tastier.
Get another cat treat and stick it to the side of the pill pocket. Then place the pocket so the treat faces down. My finicky cat is much more likely to eat the whole thing that way.
The pill pocket still helps with the cat who eats around it. After she eats the pill pocket, it is easier to shove the pill down her throat. She is more likely to swallow it instead of spitting it out if it tastes of pill pocket.
If you have two pills, try to fit them both in one pocket. Giving the cat fewer pockets will make it seem more of a treat.
