(More customer reviews)This diet is better than many others, don't get me wrong, but I believe it is best supplemented with other foods such as 8-1 ultimate crunchy in like a 3:1 ratio (1 being the zupreem), because this diet makes my ferret's poop really sticky and soft and harder to clean up.

Innova EVO Dry Ferret Food Review

They do not digest fiber well, and excess carbs in their diet is the most likely reason that we see such a high incidence of insulinoma in the USA (and other places where ferrets are fed kibble diets). The standard ferret (including zupreem or 8 in 1 ultimate) or cat food is estimated to contain upwards of 30% carbs!!! A ferret's natural diet (from looking at their cousin, the european polecat, from which Mustello furo is essentially genetically indistinguishable) should be mostly protein and fat, *very* low carb. Innova evo is guaranteed to be under 10% carbs, and it has the protein and fat that my fuzzies need to stay healthy. I can't recommend this food enough. I mix this food with Totally Ferret baby (which is the only TF food I really prefer...42% protein, less than 6% carbs, no corn, which is allergenic for many ferrets). If you don't want to order IE on the internet, you can go to their website and look for local retailers. My local natural pet food store will order a bag for me and not charge me shipping.

Getting your ferret premium food has a very direct impact on both their lifespan and their quality of life. Since ferrets don't live that long this is especially important for them. ZuPreem gives them every thing they need and if you buy it in bulk it isn't even that expensive. We've got two tupperware type bins we bought at Walmart that we transfer the food into, otherwise it'll go stale at best or may gain extra protein of the buggy kind at worse. 30 pounds lasts our three carpet sharks about six months. I've bought from PetFoodDirect before and recommend you get on their mailing list because they have frequent sales. They've always shipped promptly and things arrived in good shape.

ZuPreem Grain-Free Ferret Food 8lb Review

(More customer reviews)I've been feeding my two ferrets ZuPreem Premium for many years now. I've always been pleased with the results, but the new grain-free variety is really a cut above. After two months of the grain-free kibble, their coats are much softer than before (and it sounds strange but I SWEAR their eyes are more...twinkly, for lack of a better word). The oldest ferret is pushing 7 and had started to slow down lately, but he's become more active and playful on this diet.
With 42% protein, 18% fat, 2% fiber, and no corn or meat by-products, this really is one of the best dry foods on the market. It's a bit pricier than others of lesser quality, but the happiness and health of your ferrets is well worth the money.
And apparently it's DELICIOUS, as I've caught both my cats and my dog trying to sneak kibble between the bars of the ferret cage. Quite the recommendation, that :)
