Wysong Gourmet Chicken Feline/Canine Diet Review

In the past we have offered to our cat all the special diets for cats with failing kidneys. He wouldn't touch a single one. He is extremely thin and it is not worth "starving" him to try to force him to eat the repugnant prescription foods. With three other cats, short of separating them, it would be hard to do anyway.
This food is NOT marketed for cats with CRF or CKF but from doing a lot of reading, it seems this one is lower in phosphorus than most commercial diets. (Info obtained from [...]
Our poor boy is old, a little cranky, and picky. Though he is not overtly suffering, he probably doesn't feel as good as he used to and his appetite has lessened. I open up a few cans every day, trying to pique his interest in eating, til we hit on something. That's why I darn-near cried when he immediately dug into this as soon as I set the plate down. I was afriad it was a fluke til I did it again, and he ate again. Wonderful.
By all means check with your vet. Mine is a believer in keeping these kidney-cats eating, as many of them have thyroid issues too (as does mine) which make them skinny.
I'm not a vet, and nor am I a cat. I don't like the smell or consistency of this food... but the little guy who needs to eat it does, thank heavens.

Hi-Tor Veterinary Select Neo Diet For Dogs Review

Hi-Tor Veterinary Select Neo Diet For Dogs

This is another great product in the Hi-Tor line. Please see my review for the Neo canned diet for a lengthier review -- it all applies to this Dry Neo food too. My older dogs who have had kidney disease have had teeth pulled by the vet. The Dry Neo diet has small chunks & is easy to eat. All my dogs like the flavor & have not refused the food - ever. Because the chunks are small, they are easy to moisten with water for the dogs who need to *gum* their meals. I have to take a city bus to get to my vet now. Ordering my Hi-Tor foods thru Amazon & having it come to my door has been a God send. It is less expensive than what I get from the vet, I can buy it whenever I want, & it comes right to my door!! Hi-Tor has done a great job for years supplying pet owners with Special Diets. I have told all my friends about them & heartily recommend them.

Hi-Tor Neo Diet for Cats (24/6-oz cans) Review

Hi-Tor Neo Diet for Cats (24/6-oz cans)

Thanks to a combination of Hi-Tor Neo Diet and Vita Gravy (and the sub-q fluids prescribed by the vet) my cat, who was given a diagnosis of advanced kidney failure and a certain impending death sentence two months ago, has amazed my vet and everyone in the vet's office. As a previous poster has already said, many renal failure cats are presribed the Hill's k/d or a/d diets and they absolutely hate it and won't eat it. My cat would not touch the stuff -- wouldn't even smell it -- I had to force feed him for weeks. I finally found the Hi-Tor Neo Diet, which is almost as low protein/phosphorous as the Hill's prescription diets. My cat loves it and is finally gaining back some weight. The vet had also prescribed some vitamin drops, which he also hates. Then I found "Vita-Gravy", which is also available at Pet Food Direct. He loves the taste of the Chicken Vita-Gravy mixed with the Hi-Tor Neo. Now he's getting the extra nutrition he needs to balance his blood levels, while really enjoying the taste! If your cat has renal failure and is refusing to eat, you might want to try this combo. Good luck! I hope your kitty fares as well as mine has so far.
