Probios dog treats are dry "probiotic," lactose-free dog biscuits that are supposed to "promote healthy digestion and total body health." These biscuits are formulated to help dogs with digestive upset or diarrhea, and are labeled for use for intermittent or supplemental feeding only. The active ingredients (listed in order) include: barley flour, rice flour, potato flakes, peanut flour, soy oil, dried Bacillus subtilis fermentation product, dried Bacillus lichenformis fermentation product, and sodium alumnio silicate.
The problem with some probiotics, however, is that sometimes the good bacteria (or Bacillus) may be killed off in the stomach, before it has a chance to work in the small intestines. The second issue that I noticed is that none of the ingredients contain high-fiber ingredients, which may be beneficial for diarrhea. That said, most of the ingredients are bland, which is helpful when a dog has gastrointestinal upset. As for palatability: I tried these on my own dog, JP, who didn't have any diarrhea of GI upset. Unfortunately, he didn't love these, and only ate them with urging. One paw down for palatability.
